13th Annual Travel Show

Morris Murdock Travel is going to host our 13th Annual Travel Show January 30-31 at the South Town Expo Center in Sandy, Utah.

“We are so excited to host the travel show again,” said Becky Potts, the President of Morris Murdock. “For the past fifty years we have been the leader in business, leisure, luxury, escorted tour, and meetings and incentives travel. Through our success we have developed associations with some of the top names in the industry and now they are returning to Utah to offer visitors to our show incredible discounts and special offers.”

Did you catch that? Incredible discounts and special offers. Ok, I'm in!

“The show is an especially great opportunity for travelers looking to save a bit of money this year,” Becky continued. “Given these economic times, travelers are getting more careful with their money. They want to get the best value possible, but also feel assured that they are getting the vacation of their dreams. With all the knowledgeable travel specialists that will be on hand at the show to answer questions and assist travelers in finding the best rates available, visitors to the show can get the vacation they’ve always dreamed of in an affordable and worry-free way.”

So at the show itself we'll have over 60 international travel-related companies such as Princess Cruises, Holland America, Funjet Vacation, Trafalgar Tours, and Royal Caribbean will be on hand to offer you these exclusive rates and to inform the public (i.e. anyone looking for some huge vacation savings) about unique travel opportunities.

Visitors to the show will enjoy free destination and product seminars by industry experts, hourly prize giveaways, exclusive vacation deals, and live entertainment provided by Disney Street Dancers, a Mariachi band, Polynesian performing groups, the musical troupe On Stage Alaska, and special travel presentations on the main stage. Special appearances are planned by local personalities including former television anchor Dick Nourse and the Utah Jazz Bear.

“This show is the only one like it in Utah,” said Vanessa Christensen, our show coordinator. “Visitors can come and take advantage of vacation packages and prices that aren’t available anywhere else. They can also enjoy the free seminars, live entertainment, and have the opportunity to win big in our prize giveaways.”

Admission to the show is $5 for adults, $4 for Seniors 55 years and older, and under 17 are free. Show times are Friday January 30th from 3:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday January 31st from 10:00am-4:00pm.

Just FYI, our 2008 show was attended by over three thousand visitors and generated more than $1.6-million in sales over a two day period. The sales were THAT good.

So as you look over your 2009 vacation day schedule and wonder how to finally take that vacation you've been dreaming about, come stop by our travel show and we'll help you make it happen. Isn't it time you got out to see the world up close?

North To Alaska

Recently my husband and I had the opportunity to cruise the Inside Passage on Royal Caribbean cruise line. Being a travel agent for 15 years with Morris Murdock I have found it has opened my eyes to a whole world of interesting places and Alaska is definitely one of them. It's absolutely breath taking beautiful with the glaciers nearly surrounding you, interesting ports stepping you back in time and wildlife sightings of an occational whale, sea otters and bear.

We flew into Seattle and then made the 3 1/2 hr Quick Shuttle transfer up to Vancouver, British Columbia where we had an overnight stay before boarding the beautiful Serenade of the Seas the next morning. Check in was quick and simple and we were anxious to board this stunning ship with a glass staircase in the centrium and unforgettable panoramic views that would ensure our best view of what Alaska has to offer. The crew was friendly and helpful as we settled in, the food was delicious with so many dining options and the accommodations were, well very accommodating!

Entertainment onboard was non stop but I think our favorite activity was taking the scenicWhite Pass Railway on a vintage style parlor train car over trestles and tunnels, and past gorges and waterfalls in the September. I didn't exactly plan for a fall foliage trip but this was definitely a bonus! Hubbard Glacier was also incrediable to view since I've never been so close to hear and see glaciers calving.

An Alaska cruise or cruisetour should be a must in anyones travel log and hopefully I can guide you to making your experience as enjoyable as mine was.

Great Travel Deals for 2008

In the travel industry the biggest buying season is first quarter when the majority of customers book their travel plans for the upcoming year. The opposite happens during third quater when customers are just getting back to the daily grind and leaving summer behind. This slowdown in travel purchases has many suppliers offering great deals for the end of the season. Yes, airline prices are up, but hotels and cruises are still offering great rates. Now is the time to book a trip for October, November and December (non-holiday.)

Here are the top three selling destinations that we are seeing...

  1. Mexican Riviera Cruises
  2. Disneyland
  3. Cancun

The Valentin Resort on the Mayan Riviera

We love to hear feedback from past and current customers on the variety of experiences they have while on vacation. Here is a quick note from Kim Holden on a brand new resort called "Valentin."

"I just got back from the Maya Riviera Playa Del Carmen area and wanted to report on the Valentin. This Adults Only resort is probably one of the nicest I have ever stayed at. I have been to Cancun area 7 times staying at Riu, Iberostar, X-C aret, Palace This place is on par with the Excellence. The most amazing aspect was the personalized service and all the extra touches that made this a very six-star experience. The food was by far the best I have ever had at an all inclusive, (including lobster). The grounds and pools were amazing, and the rooms were to die for! Hot tubs in rooms, thick plush towels, and even wake up breakfast and coffee delivered to your room each morning at the time you requested. I have never met friendlier staff! While at the pool, the would bring around complimentary appetizer and notice when your drink was low so they could bring you another one. The beach was amazing - no vendors and hardly anyone out there so there was a lot of privacy. NO KIDS anywhere which was a new experience for this mom of five. I didn't realize what a "Big Deal" this would be but found it was the icing on the cake. At night, everyone dresses up and goes to elegant dinners. This was a very "quiet" place not for those who crave discos, late night parties, and a lot of loud crazy pool time. I can not say enough about this place." - Kim Holden
